Cisco SPA525G2 With Locked Firmware

Hi there everyone,
I recently purchased a Cisco IP Phone SPA525G2 on eBay which has firmware locked to the Vodafone OneNet platform. I have thus far not been able to push new firmware to the phone as:

1. The Phone does not request anything from TFTP server
2. The in-built web server is disabled and rejects any requests.

I have successfully done a "diagnostic reset" by pressing the speaker button 3 times during bootup which has reset the extension info and most of the phone's configuration however after the phone has been started for around 20 seconds it simply stops responding. Wireshark shows that the only packets the phone sends are "IGMPv2 membership report group" to what I assume is Vodafone's servers.

Any help in getting this phone up and running with 3CX would be greatly appreciated and possibly be of use to others who are trying to do the same.

Not sure Cisco phones are the most used on 3CX, did you ask on Cisco support if there's a chance to unlock this?

Unfortunately as i don't have a commercial licence with Cisco is not privy to their support. I have used Cisco 7940, 7960 and 7970 all before on 3CX with no issue, all work great.

I have use the "3 times speaker button" method to reset a password locked 525G2 in the past, with no issue. I have to assume that the firmware, on your phone, is a custom job, requested by Vodafone, to defeat the full reset and re-use the set elsewhere. Linksys/Cisco devices that are locked, are pretty much impossible to defeat unless Vodafone is willing to co-operate. I'm sure that Cisco won't provide a "fix".

Yes I used the 3 times speaker button mode but yeah everything default to the Vodafone settings. I tried using the "Uograde Firmware" option that the 3 speaker button menu also presents but I cant find any documentation on this. Any clues?

I have seen Craigslist Ads, locally for $25 to $40 CDN. Many can't be bothered programming them manually, they have been discontinued, and businesses that have up-graded just just want them gone.. Great phone with lots of features. Keep an eye open when you aren't desperate to get one the next day, to have some on hand

Shame Vodafone locks it down.

Couldn't agree more. Always loved Cisco's range and this phone especially as the SPA range has a reputation for playing nice with 3CX (BLF, CID rewrite, paging, etc). Just spent another £40 in order to get an unlocked one
