Client vs Softphone

First of all, I'm glad to be back working with 3CX after a nearly 9 month hiatus. I hope I can contribute more to this forum now that I'm back.

With that being said, I've kinda been out of the loop and have a question if you don't mind:

Is the Softphone meant to replace the VoIP Client or do these two pieces of software serve two different purposes?

Thanks for the info Matt. The short answer is that I've been involved with other projects that have consumed way too much of my time.
