Codec priority - System or extension?

For some reason I can't find the answer to this but if I have a codec order set at the system level (Settings > General) and another codec order set at the extension level, which takes priority?

I recently made a chance to the codec order at the Settings > General level and am trying to understand if I need to go update the codec level for all of the extensions as well.

The first device, initiating a call path, suggests a Codec, or a list of preferred Codecs. If the end that the Invite is sent is capable of using the preferred Codec then that one will be used Otherwise there will be a negotiation until they agree to the a Codec that both are capable of using, then that is what will be used for that leg, this is repeated for each leg of the call.

3CX is capable of transcoding (converting from one Codec to another) , but, as many have found, that can create audio issues.

It is usually best, to set the preferred Codec of your devices, and that of 3CX, the same as the one(s), used by your provider. The other can also be left on the llist of those that can be used.
