Completely lost with Failover/HA

In the document https://www.3cx.com/docs/failover/ I see: "An Enterprise (ENT) or Professional (PRO) license key is required in order to enable the failover functionality "

However, in edition comparison https://www.3cx.com/ordering/pricing/ I see at the bottom for enterprise: "Inbuilt Failover".

So what is the difference between Pro and Enterprise with respect to this and where do I find documentation on the inbuilt failover?

The documentation is basically the document you have already linked to in your post.

The Enterprise license allows you to run two instances of 3CX on the same license as an active/passive pair. I undertstand that with Pro licenses you'd need two separate licenses to do the same. Effectively, Failover is an Enterprise license feature.

Thats strange as an early post I read, with regards to this was only two licences were required for an active/active solution that was withdrawn. My understanding on the passive is that no services are running and its a restore with the services stopped. Its certainly not clear.

As mentioned in the guide the feature can be enabled by using a PRO or an ENT licence key. You do need a second key if you are running a PRO version. The main difference is the TTL of the FQDN. In the ENT the TTL is set to 5 minutes but for the PRO the TTL is 6 hours. Basically you have way less delay when using an ENT licence for the DNS entry to be updated. ENT licence is designed with failover in mind.

With an ENT license key the DNS TTL resolution for a 3CX provided FQDN is set to 5 minutes, whereas a Pro license key uses a 6 hour TTL causing a much longer reconnect time for IP phones, 3CX Apps, 3CX SBCs or the 3CX Web Client.
