If i enable compression under the '"recordings quota" tab in recordings, will it compress recordings that are being remote archived as well? If so, how will I need to go about listening to these recordings? Will I still be able to download the recording via 3cx admin portal?

Since the remote archiving is copying the recordings, then yes, those recordings will be compressed. But it is not reaching out to the remote location to compress them.

As far as listening to them, since they are copies you would listen to them exactly as the tool tip says:

Just to clarify one thing, the "compression" happens at the time that the recording is taking place. This means that all previous recordings will remain "uncompressed".

This though in no way affects archiving as cobaltit said, regardless if compressed or uncompressed, they will be archived just the same.

I concur with all the above.

But I can offer some enhancements. For example:
  • Ideally, all of your recordings old and new, should be archived and compressed, and playable from any device including your browser

  • It would be nice if I could keep some recordings (at least for a time) directly on the 3CX server while simultaneously keeping an archived version elsewhere, but be able to play either version on any device or right from my web browser

  • I might want to prohibit the deletion of recordings (especially if regulations required my industry to retain copies)

  • I would also want to be able to specify separate retention policies for both the original recordings and the archived version. For example, keep the original local for 3 weeks and keep the archived versions for 3 years

  • I would like to be able to confirm that nobody has tampered either with the original recording or the archived version by maintaining hashes of the files

  • It would be nice if I could automatically forward recordings to a central email account (Exchange for example)

  • I would like the ability to have my quality assurance team be able to add notes to a recording and have those notes automatically forwarded to the agent that took the call

  • Evaluating how well the agent handled a call based on a list of criteria I defined would be nice so I can score the call

  • Have the ability to get a full transcription of the recording, and be able to selectively choose which extensions have their calls transcribed would be a bonus

  • I would like to have the option to upload recordings to a 3rd-party service for monitoring for the use of trade secrets, or to evaluate salespersons approaches and make recommendations for improvements would be desirable

  • Seeing and modifying which extensions have all their calls recorded is administratively challenging. Going extension by extension to see who is configured to have calls recorded is time consuming when you have hundreds of extensions.

  • Logging who is viewing, downloading, emailing, deleting, or just logging into the system is important

  • I would prefer not to give queue managers access to the 3CX console just so they can monitor recordings. I certainly should only be able to see recordings of people I manage.

  • If you have millions of recordings, you may find the 3CX console times out before you can find a recording. It would be nice if I had more control over filtering capabilities.
If some of these features are important to you, you may want to take a look at our 3CX Recording Manager tool. We can do all of these things and more.
