I am researching the feasibility of using a single 3CX server for all of our branches with an SBC in each office.

I’m curious if there is a way to set the outbound caller ID based on an extension group?

Or would I need to have a separate SIP trunk for each branch and use Outbound Rules to select the truck based on the extension group?

Also related to this, is the e911 location information.

Hi Corey,

Caller-ID can be applied per Trunk or Per extension as standard, not per ring-group or queue.
Perhaps raise it on the ideas site.

Not sure if it would be useful but VoIP Tools do a "Tool" which enables you to set caller-id on the fly per agent, this might be of use: https://www.voiptools.com/product/3cx-caller-id-new/

At this point, with 3CX alone, I think your only option is going to be the separate trunk group option, then using outbound rules. Caller ID is based on an extension settings, or a trunk settings. There have been "noises" about changing that and making more options available, but I'm not sure when that will happen or if it will include an extension group as one of the choices.

By DID, i assume you simply mean a "phone number", as a DID number suggests an incoming call. While, you could contemplate "forwarding" all 911 calls through, an extension to pick up that sets "DID" number (Caller ID to be displayed on outside calls), the easiest way is to have the number set against a trunk, in that trunks options. Some providers allow additional accounts, not requiring registration (outgoing calls only). When different user/password combinations are used, different outgoing numbers can be set in the providers options. Might be something to ask about.

There may be some other ideas forthcoming...

Thank you for the great feedback. Does anyone have suggestions for SIP providers. I've used Callcentric with all my other systems, but I'm open to someone else. Floweroute looks good. We would probably have around 150 DIDs.

We use Wiretap Telecom for 3 locations on the same trunk, you simply give them a list of DIDs or numbers that you want to associate with each location for e911.

How would I forward all 911 calls via an extension?

Forward any calls to an extension to an external number.
Set extension to AWAY - so all calls route ASAP.
Ensure that the call made is using the right number.

But I think it will use the Caller ID of the extension that started the call in some instances as that is what happens to us - as we want forwarded calls to show the caller id of the originating party when we forward calls.

I wasn't really being serious (but it may be possible), it's just that the only other way that I could think to send a Caller ID, other than having it set against a trunk, is in the outbound setting of an extension. in some cases, that number will (sometimes) show on a forwarded call.
