Hi there. We are having difficulty configuring our BT HSIPT sip trunk with 3cx.

Since we are porting our number, BT has provided us with a Site ID, Domain Name, Test Number and Password. The BT HSIPT sip trunk template however also requires an ‘SRV Name’ for the outbound proxy field and ‘Authentication Username’ for the 3 way authentication password field. I have spoken to the BT order manager who doesn’t seem to have a clue what these are.

Can anyone with experience with BT HSIPT sip trunks shed some light on what information I need to input for these fields and where I can obtain it?

I’ve set up sip trunks from companies like VoiceHost with 3cx in 30 seconds in the past, I don’t know why BT’s process is so complicated!

Thank you in advance!

Hello @E.S.

BT is indeed a bit more complicated to add as they require some additional configuration. Here is the guide we compiled after our recent interop of their new SBC's. Since you are a new customer this should apply to you and they should add you to their ACME SBC's.
BT should also have an internal guide regarding 3CX that they should be able to share with you. Without seeing what was provided I am guessing that the site ID should go in the registrar value, the domain name should be the proxy, test number should be added as the authentication ID and password as the password. If you do not have a authentication ID try to disable the 3-way authentication and try it like that but I am pretty sure the option should be enabled.

Ask BT if you are on their new ACME SBCs so we are on the same page.

Hi Yiannis,

Thank you for your help. I have also been following the guide you linked to however unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work with the credentials I have been provided by BT. The credentials they provided have the following format:

Site ID: CVSITE#########A
Domain: ne**********al.co.uk (this is our own business domain, not managed by BT)
Test Number: 020 #### ####
Password: ********

I have been told that these are the only credentials they have and that they can only support BT products, not something external like 3cx - annoyingly unhelpful.

We purchased in September and only received credentials now, so perhaps we are not on the new SBC? The order manager on the phone did in fact say that on the few previous occasions they had experience with 3cx, the above credentials were all that was required.

I will call to try and find out if we are on the ACME SBC, however just in case I hit a stone wall again, is there a previous version of the guide still available somewhere?

Many thanks

So where are you supposed to register at? I do not see a BT registration host name or IP Address. I am sure they should also give you that detail.

I do not have a copy of the previous guide but it would not help you much as it also required a registration address and 3-way authentication. Ask them if you are on the ACME SBCs and where are you supposed to register at and let us know. If we cannot figure it out we will contact them and see if this is maybe a different product you are on and if we can help you out in some way.

Hello - The testnumber should be with full international dial codes - e.g. 44 for UK
The domain is used to authenticate on the BTW SIP and should be entered into the Registrar address.
The outbound proxy would be sipt-dynamic-bs09.yourwhc.co.uk for 3CX

Hi dmv. Unfortunately still no luck. I used the outbound proxy you provided and of course used the international dial codes as per the guide - https://www.3cx.com/docs/bt-uk-sip-trunk/.

I’ve also tried everything I can think of for the ‘3 way authentication password’, but still not working. Do you by any chance know what should be entered here?

I’ve provided all the information to the BT order manager who has forwarded my case to their engineering tech team. I’m waiting to get a response.

If you can think of anything else I can can try in the meantime, please let me know. I really appreciate your help.

BT has multiple outbound proxies and could differ depending on where you need to register to. Let us know if their engineering team is unable to help you.

Hi there. Indeed you were correct. BT had an internal guide which they have sent me and the trunk is now registered!

The Site ID was used as the 3 way authentication password and the outbound proxy was provided in the guide dated Feb 2020. The other details were the same as the 3CX configuration guide.

Thank you so much for the help and I hope someone in the future finds this post helpful.

Glad to see you were able to solve your issue and thank you for the update. I will also make an internal note of this just in case someone else needs assistance in the future.
