Hi all

I'm busy setting up a client that has 2 branches that need to connect calls destined for the remote site to be routed from our Cloud 3CX in South Africa to their system in Italy.

I have setup and Extension on 3CX and provided them with the Authentication details and IP for the cloud server. Is this correct or is there a better way to achieve this. They do not have a 3CX system, just that I need to route calls to an After Sales Service externally.

What system does the other side have?

They should be able to register a VoIP trunk, from the "other" system, to the 3CX extension. As to whether there is a better way, it all depends on how simple, or complicated, you call routing requirements are. If you require something more involved, then a Bridge trunk might be considered.

Depending on the needs, when we transitioned between phone systems, we used a "dummy" phone number for this.

if you only need transfer functionality, this may work as a quick and dirty fix.

I suppose the "correct" fix would be to put a SBC at their site and setup the 2 phones through it.

Hi

Thanks for the replies so far.
They are using a customized version of asterisk (ver 13.18.4)

You will have to manually bridge the two sides then, by building a trunk that 3CX will register to.

Thank you for the link i will have a look and test!

Hi all

Update!
I have the bridge up and working, i had another connection for a SIP that was previuosly not working but since the bridge is up that SIP is showing connected.

What i need to achieve now is to route calls to the virtual extension, essentially i want to have an extension that is used in an IVR and have the calls routed for that extension to the bridge.

What would be the best way to achieve this?

You don't need a virtual extension, actually you can route calls directly via the bridge.

Just use a prefix so you can address your bridge, include an outbound rule for that prefix and strip it out, and then you can dial for example 91000 and call the extension 1000 that exists on the remote side.

Hi John

Im sort of getting what you are saying. Maybe im missing something, let me explain a bit better as well.

The client is on my shared hosted platform on 3cx and has a group setup with multiple SIPs incoming and outgoing.

The other site is in Italy and we have created the bridge now to connect the sites, correct me if im wrong?
The SIPs all point to a digital receptionist for the prompt. if they press for instance option 2 it must route to the Italy site, how do i set that up?
Apologies if im missing something, im relatively new to 3CX.

Ok for the specific scenario then, create a new extension on 3CX
And forward its calls to the italian bridged number

Then in the IVR, set your option 2 for example to send the call to this extension.

Thanks for the explanation, I will be testing this today.

Just to clarify the number will be as below in the bridge?

Hi Terence,

No, what you see there is the internal trunk number of the bridge that will appear in the system logs (10060)

The number you will forward the calls to will be your prefix + the destination extension of the other PBX.

So if you have prefix 9, and the extension on the other PBX you want to forward to is 500, then you should forward calls in 3CX towards 9500. You also need to build an outbound rule that covers this.

Remember, you are trying to call an extension that resides on another PBX, not an actual phone number.
