Create new V18 Instance for V20 Upgrade Test

Hi,

I want to test the upgrade of my V18 3CX (hosted) instance to V20, but would prefer not to do this on my live instance. I have tried creating a new hosted instance via the 3CX portal, but it creates a V20 instance, which doesn't allow me to restore from a V18 backup (I did try using a V18 backup via Google Cloud Storage, but with no luck).

Is there a way to create a new V18 instance that I can restore my V18 backup into, to then test the upgrade to V20, without affecting my LIVE instance?

NB: I have already modified the backup ZIP to remove all users except a select few who are helping to test the upgrade, and I've blatted my SIP trunk as well so that it doesn't interfere with my live instance either.

If a new V18 instance isn't possible, any advice would be appreciated to help me achieve what I'm trying to achieve please.

Not sure how it would affect licensing, but could you possibly clone your existing server and use the clone in an isolated, offline network to upgrade and then create a backup?

That would work, no internet no upgrade. During the upgrade the licence will be transfered to v20 as well and no way back.

What do you fear to upgrade your instance? If you go through the faq and read a little bit here, you will find everything to prepare for the upgrade.

Thanks for your reply, however I don't understand this. I'm using 3CX-hosted, not self-hosted, if that makes it clearer? It sounds to me like you're describing steps for a self-hosted instance. Can you please clarify? Thanks

Thanks for your reply, however I have a lot to fear if the upgrade doesn't go to plan. 3CX is business-critical for us, and if something goes awry I need to know how to fix it quickly without fumbling through the 3CX forums and online documentation. I've already done a lot of research using these forums, and I believe that I am well-prepared for the upgrade, but nothing ticks all the boxes like doing a dry run in my opinion, and I was really hoping that there was such an option before completing the upgrade on my live instance with no way back

There is no dry run... The most important is to have the working system owner credentials. Test it before and take a backup. Everything else is fixable really fast. Maybe take a partner to upgrade.

What am I testing, and before what? I assume you're suggesting to take a backup of my V18 prior to the upgrade, but if there's no way to dry run, then there's presumably no way to restore my V18 backup if something goes pear-shaped and I want to rollback...
