I think I must be stuck with a mis-match of versions of things, probably looking at an older 3CX "help" page... when I download the 3CX Debian Linux iso, and install it on VMware 6.5, then I don't get the choice of "Install" or "Graphical Install" that the how-to says I will, If I pick Graphical Install, I just get a blank grey screen, and it never completes.

I'd prefer a text-mode install. When I try to use a generic Debian 9 ISO I can't work out how to load the install - the script I've used in the past on Google VMs doesn't appear to be compatible (different verions or something...)

unusual, we use the ISO, and it worked exactly as expected. redownload and verify your using the proper stuff, we have 90 3CX PBXs in our vmware cluster environment, and its all on vSphere 6.5

Tried that - didn't work - assumed we had the wrong version of something. Not good enough at Linux to work out what. It was a 4.9 ISO - is 4.9 the same as Stretch or can there be complications?

Hi wizards

This is how it looks on the latest ISO. You should be fine in this case

Thanks for the input guys but in the end we gave up trying to do this with a non-Linux-familiar guy on site and me trying to talk him through doing it all... will revisit in future.

no problem, you can go ahead with windows instead
