Dect with pass-through?

Good afternoon

I have searched and searched but cannot seem to find any? Do they even exist?

Many of our deployments are old buildings with limited data cabling infrastructure, in many cases we ideally need to share a single ethernet connection with a desktop PC. This is fine with desk phones but when a customer wants DECT it means cabling is required.

Does anyone know of a DECT base station that has passthrough?

None of the supported dect base units have a passwthu.

Why not use a small network switch / hub to extend network connections where the dect base units need to go,

Typically routers have 4 LANs on them.

Depending on distance, why dont you stick the DECT base with the router?

We use a 5 port switch that is powered via POE and does POE pass-through for the DECT Base in these cases.

Thanks SweetAction, ideally I would prefer to just buy a single device that does the job (dect phone with pass-through) rather than have to use switches all over the place. If there really isn't any DECT phones with this capability, it might not be a bad idea for someone to invent one lol. Seems to be a gap in the market here.

Regarding the other suggestions, I can't just stick my DECT's into the router. Some of these premises are huge and the DECT bases need to be in the area where they are needed.

I guess my answer for now is what I am already having to do and that's use switches :/

I think they are saying to put the DECT at the router/switch - as some units have a separate antenna from the Charging Base.

(My router at work has 12 ports... my router at home is 1 port. I wouldn't say "4" is typical.)

yeah I get what they mean but DECT is just radio and it doesn't have infinite range. I have to put the bases where the radio coverage is needed. I can't always put them where the router is.

I understand your need totally. I think the passthru POE switch is the best bet unfortunately.

Is there no wiring at all, or just no ethernet wiring? If there's some legacy CAT3 or something you can actually do PoE over that with the right equipment.

But this doesn’t really help get a second ethernet connection at the DECT base station location which is the goal.
