I've configured a 3CX install and I'm getting complaints from the phone users that their call "goes dead" for a time then comes back. I set up call monitoring to see if I can catch it happening, and indeed I can. I've also been able to perfectly associate it with an error in the logs:

09-Jan-2015 11:09:16.207 [MS104000] C:797.4: (ACTIVE) RTP stream to 192.168.1.203:2224 restored.
09-Jan-2015 11:09:16.207 [MS104000] C:797.1: (ACTIVE) RTP stream to 192.168.1.200:5048 restored.
09-Jan-2015 11:09:14.723 [MS004000] C:797.4: (ACTIVE): Can't send RTP stream to 192.168.1.203:2224 destination unreachable
09-Jan-2015 11:09:14.707 [MS004000] C:797.1: (ACTIVE): Can't send RTP stream to 192.168.1.200:5048 destination unreachable

These are quite frequent. The last day I checked, this happened at some point in 25% of the calls that went through.

In the example above, the .200 address is my gateway and .203 is one of the phones. If there are simultaneous calls, these outages will affect all of them at the same time:

09-Jan-2015 11:00:32.796 [MS104000] C:796.8: (ACTIVE) RTP stream to ***.***.120.121:14008 restored.
09-Jan-2015 11:00:32.796 [MS104000] C:796.1: (ACTIVE) RTP stream to 192.168.1.200:5046 restored.
09-Jan-2015 11:00:32.781 [MS104000] C:797.4: (ACTIVE) RTP stream to 192.168.1.203:2224 restored.

09-Jan-2015 11:00:31.656 [MS004000] C:797.4: (ACTIVE): Can't send RTP stream to 192.168.1.203:2224 destination unreachable
09-Jan-2015 11:00:31.656 [MS004000] C:797.1: (ACTIVE): Can't send RTP stream to 192.168.1.200:5048 destination unreachable
09-Jan-2015 11:00:31.640 [MS004000] C:796.8: (ACTIVE): Can't send RTP stream to ***.***.120.121:14008 destination unreachable
09-Jan-2015 11:00:31.640 [MS004000] C:796.1: (ACTIVE): Can't send RTP stream to 192.168.1.200:5046 destination unreachable

(The ***.***.120.121 is a remote office's IP, I blanked it out)

I've seen similar errors on the forum but not quite like this. Can anyone give me any pointers? It's extremely aggravating for them to have to repeat something when it drops out like that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

Re: Destination unreachable error causing intermittent silen

It may come down to a faulty router or switch. Short of any definitive logs, from a device, you may have to do some swapping out hardware to see what resolves the issue.

Thank you for your reply. This is what I suspected and I'm glad to hear someone else say it. That was my next step.

Do you think it's possible that an overloaded network would cause this behavior as well, or would I see something else?

Thanks,

Dan

It very well could be a symptom of network congesting, not having experienced it when using VoIP. Off hand i would suspect more "clipped" words , or noise, rather than extended silence.
