Dial by name # hangs up

Is there any way to go back to dial by name function if I miss dial or there are no matches. The only option is to "exit press #" . The system says good bye then hangs up. I want to go back to the dial by name and try again. I don't want it to hang up on me. I have to call back in and try again. Help
