I have a customer with multiple site and the users are dialing the DID of the group or extension they are trying to reach instead of dialing the extension number. Getting all of the users to dial the extension number instead of the DID will be hard to accomplish. Is there a way to route to route these calls to an extension? Currently when they call the DID, there are audio issues. I have read about a loop back trunk but i dont know if that would work here.

Thanks

Hi @ryanscallan

Instead of trying to use a workaround to call an extension via the DID assigned to them and causing issues just like the audio issue you mentioned, it would be better if you add BLF keys that they can press to dial the extensions directly.

If they are dialing the full PSTN number, then, yes, you could intercept those numbers in in the outbound rules and route them back in, with a loop trunk. This will still however, make use of two of your concurrent licensees for each call. The same will happen currently if the call goes to to a provider and back in, but, at least with a loop trunk you won't have to pay for the call(s).

Hello ryanscallan,

You can do the following:
Edit an extension, goto options and enter the full external DID (as dialed), in the "SIP ID: Must be unique per extension"
Do this for each extention to be reached in this way.
Now the extentions can be dialed by internal extension numer and from internal by full DID number directly.

Just make sure, this option is set: Admin - System - Options -> Allow Direct SIP calling (must be enabled).

@paulodagraca Thank you for the information. The issue is really with the customer dialing to ring groups or digital receptionist. Would the loop back trunk be the only option for this?

Thanks
Ryan

It all depends. If it is to an extension, then the SIP ID, for that extension can be made the full PSTN number, as mentioned above. If it is calls to ring group or something that a SIP ID cannot be attached to, then the loop trunk may be the solution for you.
