Solved Dialing Long Distance Locally

Had a call from my boss who is in Europe and helping to test 3CX. Our 3CX is in the 441 exchange. He tried to dial a number here from his contacts stored in the format +1441-XXX-XXXX and it failed. In the email alert that arrives, I see:

Call or Registration to +441XXXXXXX@(Ln.10000@Provider SIP) has failed.

The regular long distance rule (when just 1-441-XXX-XXXX is dialed) works when I dial it, but it appends the + sign as part of the rule. Simple rule, if the number is 8-12 digits long, append a +.

What rule do I need to take the additional + into consideration? Thanks.

PS. Does the + symbol count as a digit when number length is counted?

Hello @Shadragon

You can create an outbound rule and specify the "+" sign into "Calls to numbers starting with prefix" field and do not prepend or append anything. Make sure that your E164 settings do not replace the + with 00.

Thanks Yiannish, I did try that before writing the OP, but it still failed so E164 is probably the cause.

In Settings - E164, the country was set to US. I set it to mine. There are two options. "Remove if same country" and "Remove if same area code". I presume both of those need to be checked?

That depends on what you are trying to do so it is not a Yes or No answer but if they are checked then "+" signs will be converted to "00" so you can adjust your outbound rules for "00"

I set both check boxes on and made some test calls. It worked.

I had to amend my international long distance rules for the + sign as well. For others info, my E164 (outside of my country) was substituting 011 for the +. I added an outbound rule for the 011 prefix on 11-17 digits, with strip three digits and append + (needed for my SIP provider) and my calls are now going out correctly.

The process seems to be:

- User dials +351218851189
- 3CX E164 Settings replaces + with 011
- 011351218851189 hits Outbound rule with 011 identifier
- Outbound rule strips first three digits and appends +
- +351218851189 passed to SIP trunk provider
- Call connected

Fake phone number used. By the way, this is for my specific provider. YMMV.

PS. Would be nice if I could enter nothing in the E164 settings for the International Dial Code, then I could pass the original number unchanged. As it is now, you have to enter something, necessitating a rule to remove the E164 changes.
