Difference between DND via *61 and *32

I was wondering why there's different behaviour between activaing DND via *61 and *32? When I activate DND via *61, status of the extension does not change in the 3CX webclient but it does in the 3CX windows client And shows the "real", red icon with white horizontal bar) DND icon.
When I activate DND via *32, status of the extension changes both in the 3CX webclient and in the 3CX windows client but it shows a red icon (not the red icon with the white horizontal bar)

Why is this different and which one is the preferred method? I would like to have the *32 method also show the "real" DND icon.

*6 is legacy to set an extension regardless of the profile status into DND and should not be used anymore. *3 changes the users profile status to DND and will be shown as well to others via the profile status. You can expect that *6 will be removed from the PBX in the future.

Thanks Stefan and when the *6 is removed, will the DND via *3 be displayed by the red icon with the horizontal white bar, this is what users generally see as DND

Craig, yes this is the same for our customer. If you look at your example, can you tell if Ryan or Kevin is set to DND? (on your Grandstream phone?) Or do they see if your status is DND on their phone?

You cannot see if Ryan or Kevin is set to DND from your Grandstream phone.

You can see it in the clients though. When an extension is set to DND it will also set the associated deskphone to DND too.

However if you use the old method of *6 then you are only setting the specific phone device to DND (not the Extension) and effectively making it reject incoming calls. As @StefanW said, you can expect that *6 will be removed from the PBX in the future.
