Hi all.
  • 3CX Version: Standard Annual 16.0.2.910
  • Server OS: Windows Server 2016
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? Hosted at a datacentre running as a virtual machine
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware: Grandstream GXP1628 and GXP2135
  • Provisioning Method: SBC running on a Debian 9 virtual machine
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model: Flowroute
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO
I recently set up 8 Grandstream phones (half GXP1628 and half GXP2135) at an office, the GXP2135 model phones are set up in a ring group to answer incoming calls. Is there a way to have the phones play a specific ringtone for external calls and another specific ringtone for internal calls?

And in the case of a external caller being transferred from one IP phone to another, would that be considered an internal call or external call from the point of view of the phone receiving the transfer?

Hi Mike,

If you go to an extension, see the provisioning options, while your phone is selected in the drop down list, and scroll down to options, you will see the following:

12291

This means you can select a custom ring tone for your queue calls. When they transfer you a call the system ring tone will play (since its considered an internal call now)

Okay, what if I don't have any queues? Are queues the only way to configure this?

The option is only for the queues (and direct external calls). The rest of the calls will receive the system ringtone as you see in the screenshot.
