e911 with 2 locations + same extension @ each location

I am trying to figure out how to get this working, I have a customer with 2 locations, and I am trying to setup each e911 address. I have setup the 3CX Emergency Number rules to call using a separate DID for a branch location with separate extensions. This separate DID is only used for outbound e911 identification purposes at this branch office. In the Emergency Number rule you can filter by extension/group. This all works great!

The issue I run into is a few users who have desks at both sites. These people have 2 desk phones, 1 at each site but the phones have the same extension. This throws those rules out the door for the extension filter I set on the Emergency number rules.

Any ideas?

I have not tested this...

In the past (not tried recently) I would configure the CID of the operator extension with the value of "0". When a caller dials "0" 3CX knows to ring the operator extension.

I wonder if you could create two extensions, but configure one of them with the CID of the other extension. For example, extension 100 and extension 101. On extension 101 set the CID as 100. My hope is that both extensions will ring when you call extension 100.

Or, you could forward all calls to extension 100 to extension 101 when working at the other office?

Neither option is a perfect solution, if it works at all, but that is the only idea that comes to my mind.

I assume you meant the SIP ID, rather than the CID, which usually refers to Caller ID.

If this is a one-off you could make the users extension a ring group with unique extensions but I think 2 unique extensions with call forwarding is probably the best bet.

How about a custom web portal where the user can choose their location, similar to the following:

Extension: 101 Matthew Orr ___ Location A _X_ Location B

By selecting a location, the portal changes the group membership of the extension. Remember, 3CX decides on what DID to present based on the following:

1. Emergency groups
2. Extension DID
3. Trunk DID

Create a group for each location and assign a DID to each group. then have the user manually choose the desired location.

I suppose you could do this with a CFD application too. Either approach would require you use the 3CX Call Control API to change the group membership.
