A typical attempt at a fix involves:
1) Ensure your ATA/Device is using the correct line impedance setting
Page 182 and 530 (not sure what it is for UK or Ireland)
2) lower your ATA's output volume/gain - ie the volume of the sound you hear on your phone to a point where the call is just loud enough for you to be happy with the call.
Page 531 (for what ever it is set decrease it by 3 at the time, you can even set it to 0)
3) If echo persists, lower your microphone sensitivity such that the person on the other end of the phone can still hear you comfortably.
