I had troubles figuring this out. Really! I can't find any solution to make this work. But suddenly I found this solution trial/error and like to share this to people. Tested with my office environment and it works. I can't do screenshots but the tips below should be sufficient to guide you to the right path.
a. I assume you install Elastix (whatever latest and stable version).
b. Install IM (aka OpenFire). I installed this with normal way, following any tutorials online.
c. Don't and forget about Asterisk-IM and those plugins. It ain't working
No need add any server, phone mapping, etc. if you can't find IM gateway, google harder but again it won't help in your chatting
d. Create users. Now say you have 1 extension 2001, create a new user following 2001. I am not sure why, but the extension number must be the same with the IM user (correct me if i am wrong, moderators).
e. Once done. Now go to your Bria 3 (i am using mac version but it should work on windows).
f. Under preference, create an account for SIP and an account for XMPP.
example, [email protected] for SIP and [email protected] for XMPP.
g. Once connected you are able to start.
h. Add a new user with the big plus button.
i. Let's assume i have this:-
2001 - Me
2002 - John
j. Inside the new user window, I choose office category. Then I set the right display name, etc. However I start with Instant Messaging "[email protected]" or just "2002".
k. I click on enable presence. It will prompt an optional window and press continue.
l. Click ok. Now, on John's bria 3, he will prompted to accept me.
m. Click Allow, this is a must step and set "whatever my name" and under work category.
n. When successfully, in your Bria 3, you will see John - Available. Note, you must see Available to make it works. if you see ready, means it is not working.
o. Then in John's bria, I right click on the newly added user and view/edit profile. Now I will add in the softphone "[email protected]" and add in first/last name, etc. If all set, I will see "Eric - Available".
p. Do the same softphone for my bria 3.
q. Click on the user at Bria 3 and the chat icon. Yes, it should work
Please note: You must always add Instant Messaging first and not Soft phone. Else it will not work for my experiences.
If you import contacts from your iOS cloud, it will work too. Click on existing user, right click and choose view/edit profile. Start off with instant messaging and the above steps.
