Encrypted backup file size

We have an issue with a particular PBX backup (to FTP) failing when including recorded calls and password protection. I suspect this is an issue with the backup size as the error below seems to indicate, however there is 200gb free on our ftp and an unencrypted backup is only 7gb. I understand encrypting it increases the file size but surely not by that much. If I untick call recordings then an encrypted backup will succeed with a size of 1.2gb.

Recordings are stored on a secondary vm disk if that matters

Something else to note is that the OS disk has only 9gb free space, so I suspect that is the issue.

Still, would be good to know how much encryption increases the file size by

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Encrypted backups will be larger than unencrypted because encryption and compression do not work well together, so the encrypted backup will not be compressed as much as the unencrypted one and will be significantly larger.
