Extension to Voicemail

I've had a hard time figuring out the best search terms to find an answer to this question, so I apologize in advanced if it has already been answered. We would like for calls to teacher extensions to go directly to voicemail and not ring in the classroom. I have locked the ringer volume to zero using a custom phone template and reduced the time for forwarding to voicemail. These actions will work, but I'm wondering if there is a way to simply have an extension always go straight to voicemail without ringing the handset?

Yes, that is essentially what we are trying to accomplish. We have done this in FreePBX by using the Find Me/Follow Me feature, setting the ring time to zero, and sending the call directly to voicemail. 3CX will not let me set the ring time to zero, so there is a brief half-ring and then voicemail picks up.

Does the phone have a DND button? You could disable the button on the phone (if it has one). They do not use a computer client, right? So how would they change their DND status? I think @leejor's suggestion has merritt.

Why not use a SIP Panic Button or SIP Alerter?
