I have a customer with 2 distinct DIDs that are separate businesses.... one is for his law office. He only has one phone on his desk. With their old system this was easy to map a line key to another extension, but I can't or don't know how to do this in 3cx. Is there a way to make this work? He needs the ability to know which line is being called, and needs to make outbound calls with the correct caller ID. Kinda getting desperate here.

Custom template or manual change on the phone.
On outbound caller id - you set the outbound caller id based on the extension.
So Ext A will use 4805551212 and Ext B will use 4805551313.
Or - have 2 different SIP trunks.

Also depends on the VoIP Provider if they allow you to send different caller ID's or not.

What type of set are they using? Someone may have some "template tips" to offer, for adding additional line keys.

Just getting back on this... bigger fish this past week. It is a Fanvil X6. I got 2 SIP trunks to work, but on inbound, I need to visually or audibly let the user know which line is being called.

Well, if you have the numbers come in on different line keys, you could have each assigned a different ring tone. If they come in on the same key, then, not unless the set can use caller ID to make use a different ring tone, as you do with a mobile phone.

If these numbers are, in fact, DIDs, then a name can be set against each, to differentiate as a part of the caller ID.

Hello @SkyFi

Since you have 2 trunks to work with i would recommend settings the phone up with the default template and 1 account. For inbound calls create an Inbound rule for each trunk and give it a unique name. Then navigate to Contacts / Options and select "Prepend Name" under the "Add Group, Queue or DID/DDI Names to Caller ID" option.
This will have the name of the inbound rule displayed on the phone before the number so the client will know where the call is coming from.

For outbound calls create 2 outbound rules with prefix. For the first trunk use prefix 8 for example and for the second trunk use 9 as a prefix. So the client can select his outbound caller ID based on the outbound rule selected.
