This isnt so much Phone system related, but since out of the box, the fanvil's provision directly to the 3CX Phone system in the cloud, i can only assume there is some backend 3CX integration, I will ask here. :)

This is our first Fanvil phone. The features and quality seem to be pretty nice for what the cost is in comparison. I am however running into 1 issue.

Network connectivity. The phone itself - No problems. But the PC port connected to it, keeps dropping my network packets all together or sometimes just allows certain ones through. Is this a known issue?

To expand a little on it. Sometimes after a reboot it will stay for a hour or 2. Other times it doesnt work even directly after a reboot.

I am running the latest 3CX firmware on the phone.

Also this is an X4 not an X3. Im not up on the model numbers yet. lol

Hi Jessy,

You should currently be running 3CX 16.0.2.910, and X4 Firmware 2.10.1.6836 Can you please confirm?

The provisioning should be done automatically by the PBX with our unmodified templates, and give the phone a minute or two to fully boot up and enable its ports as intended.

PS: It's important to always specify specific version numbers, since there is no such thing as the latest version (it depends on your PBX edition and sometimes even region).
Kindly use this template in the future to help us better understand how your system is set up and we will be glad to help https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/information-to-provide-when-requesting-help.67558/

Gotcha! Yes thats correct on both of the firmware versions. We are not using any modified template for the phone either. Stock templates.

Its very odd the port may work for 10 minutes it may work for 5 hours. Its never a physical disconnect, it just no longer lets the traffic pass.

Sometimes it will even let me ping and access other devices within the network but not access the gateway/internet.

If i put the old phone back in place, no issues. If i put a switch in place, no issues. Put the phone back in place and i experience the same thing.

We run a bunch of X2P's without issue.

My troubleshooting would go in this order:

  1. Two cmd windows open, one pinging phone and the other pinging PC to see if pings suffer on both at the same time (phones tend to be a lot more tolerant of lost packets so you can't always tell if everything is fine just by looking at it / using it).
  2. PC ethernet cable swap. Because, why not! And, if possible, change of ethernet socket and port number on switch.
  3. See if you can replicate the issue when disconnecting the phone and plugging the PC directly into the same ethernet socket.
  4. IP address change for PC in case of accidental duplication.
  5. Switch / router / firewall. Is the equipment coping with multiple IP's on the same port. Is there a VLAN config issue. If on a VLAN, is there a DHCP issue.
  6. If not using PoE, ensure PSU for phone is adequate (you can get some weird networking problems if it isn't)

    • Two cmd windows open, one pinging phone and the other pinging PC to see if pings suffer on both at the same time (phones tend to be a lot more tolerant of lost packets so you can't always tell if everything is fine just by looking at it / using it). --- We did this and the PC connected to the phone drops the packets even pinging the phone itself. However you can go to another PC and access the web interface on the phone (through the WAN side port obviously) at that same time.
    • PC ethernet cable swap. Because, why not! And, if possible, change of ethernet socket and port number on switch. --- Tried that already, no change
    • See if you can replicate the issue when disconnecting the phone and plugging the PC directly into the same ethernet socket. --- We eventually bypassed the phone and I am just now directly into the wall. Being that were an MSP, I cant have my PC randomly going down. haha
    • IP address change for PC in case of accidental duplication. --- I did use another one, but we have a very tight system where the extension (in my case 112) is the same as my PC's IP address.
    • Switch / router / firewall. Is the equipment coping with multiple IP's on the same port. Is there a VLAN config issue. If on a VLAN, is there a DHCP issue. --- We do not do anything with VLAN's. If I place a Sangoma Phone, Yealink or Snom in its place, no issues.
    • If not using PoE, ensure PSU for phone is adequate (you can get some weird networking problems if it isn't) --- We are using PoE switching, I am the only one experiencing this and it wasnt until we put this phone in place. This is our first Fanvil phone as were moving over to 3CX from FreePBX, so we are testing to see which models we want. Other than this issue, we are loving the phone for its price point.

Sounds like you have a duff unit then.
