Fanvil x5u-V2

We have a few x5u-V2 phones set up as routers phones using Wi-Fi as the connection and the system keeps showing registration failed. We have tried using a hot spot which we know works as well as another Wi-Fi that works with other phones but for some reason these phones are not registering. Are there any knows issues with router phones registering to the system via Wi-Fi? ALl the phones that are hard wired are working just fine. Screenshot of the event log is attached.

Please note that It has never been tested or is supported to connect IP Phones with WiFi connections.

Always use a physical wired connection for all ip phones, especially if you want to receive support from 3cx technical support for any issues that you may have.

Thank you Charles. I just wanted to let you know that we got it working. I set them up as normal phones using another extension as an SBC…and it worked…so IF using WiFi you will need to at least put one phone in the same network wired and allow them to use it as their SBC.

@Charles_3CX I have exactly the same problem. Why Wi-Fi would not be supported as it is exactly like having an eth connection...more than that there is the V65 from fanvil that has wifi built-in and other phone as well.
We are in the time we need to have wireless everywhere for everything. Consider having this enabled by thinking to all the remote workers that can be at house or shared spaces, we need a solution for this use of case

We don’t test ip phones with WiFi connections and can’t advise on how to do it plus since this scenario is not tested means it’s not supported, so no assistance from 3cx Techical support is offered currently, with such cases.

For remote workers it’s suggested to use apps, they are free and with the webclient no installation is required either.

Hi @Charles_3CX , well this should be considered to be a supported functionality. Imagine to tell a worker who has his router in the basement and working on the second flood, have to run a cable to the router to use the phone ? But can use the tablet, cell phone and laptop for everything else ? Looks like a 19th century thing My opinion...

That is why we have mobile apps. Since they have cell phones they can use the 3CX app on their cell phone completely free

I do understand perfectly this point but some old people....still like to have the desk phone

The jitter / latency / packet loss that WiFi has is something that a lot of applications have little to no problem with. Not the case with SIP however, so we will not be supporting WiFi any time soon.

The 3CX mobile app was custom written with some ways to overcome these issues (like the automatic reconnection feature), but IP phones do not have this custom code because they run standard SIP, and one lost packet is sometimes enough to break SIP. If you want so use WiFi find your own solution to do so, but also be prepared for the unreliability when the time comes. Remote phones can also use Powerline / HomePlug if you don't have any other options in the installation space.
