Hi all,

I am talking to a law firm that currently send confidential information via fax as they don't want to put them as plain text in email.

First question - with the 3cx Fax Server, can they send and receive faxes, or it for receiving only?
Second question - can received faxes be processed differently to being sent via email? For example, saved to a folder and a notification sent via email.

Many thanks,

Jason

Regarding your question, please note that faxes in 3CX can only be received and sent via email to the configured email address of an extension. The fax is delivered as a PDF attachment to the user's inbox.

If you wish to send a fax using a physical fax machine, you will need:

An FXS device (such as a Grandstream HT8xx or equivalent) is connected to the system via a 3CX SBC, and the fax machine is physically connected to the FXS port.

To ensure reliable operation, the FXS device should be correctly provisioned and located on the same LAN as the SBC or connected remotely via the SBC.

Important: Faxing over VoIP is sensitive to packet loss and network instability. For the most reliable results, we recommend:

Use a dedicated SBC for fax traffic if possible.

Thanks Charles,

For sending outbound, is there the option to email-to-fax?

With the inbound PDF, is it kept as an image, or converted to text? I ask as my client will want to know if the PDF could be scanned or bank details.

Many thanks,

Jason
