After searching this forum for info on connecting a Google Voice number to the 3XC server, I found that it's not an option. Google bought Gizmo5 off the market and killed it. They do, however have a SIP-like service via their Google Talk. I am currently using it with the GrooVe IP phone app on my Android. It works really well! My Android is a minutes-free Google Voice phone.

Google Voice (via Google Talk) uses XMPP instead of SIP to set up the call, and thereafter it uses the same RTP that SIP does. For details see the Google Talk for Developers info.

With this info, my feature idea for 3CX is to make a Google Voice connection. It would show up as either a gateway similar to the (confusing and complicated) Skype gateway, or even better, as a supported "VOIP Provider". Since the XMPP/Jingle protocol is an "alternative SIP" in a sense, it seems like the cleanest user experience would be to have GV appear as one of the choices in "Add a VOIP Provider". Yes, the settings are different (only a GV username and password are needed) but maybe it could be done. If that would be too crazy, then a gateway would be second choice.

Hello,

Not a bad idea, but it is best to post feature requests here http://3cx.ideascale.com/. So others can vote on it.

Thanks,
Nate
