First time bridge setup

Hi folks. This is a pretty vague learning experience question. I may have a situation where bridging is the answer. I aim to set up some test servers soon, but perhaps if someone has some time, look through my ideas, understanding, questions to help me expedite this first time learning process. I haven't found a good document that outlines bridge features/considerations.

How many PBX bridges can you have?

If Extensions do not overlap (Numbering plan):
In this case PBX A is 1000’s, B is 2000’s.
Outbound rule on A would be calls to length 4, prefix 2 go over bridge B.
User on A would just dial 2000 to reach 2000 on B.​
Outbound rule on B would be calls to length 4, prefix 1 go to bridge A.
User on B would just dial 1000 to reach 1000 on A.​
No prefix in bridge settings required.

But I would need to set bridge prefix of 1 on A, 2 on B to allow dial codes to be sent to the bridged PBX, say send call to bridge extensions voicemail *4, then you could transfer to 2*42001 to send a call to voicemail of ext 2001 from PBX A.
Would this then mean also adding outbound rules on A of prefix 2*, length any (2* so any dial code with * work and to not conflict with 7/10digit dialing local#’s that might start with 2)?​

Having the prefix in the bridge means dialing extensions now requires prefix, so to dial extension 2000, user on A must dial 22000 and dial rule should be changed to 5 digits, strip 1.​

You can transfer calls to queues/ring groups/digital receptionists across bridge as long as the queue extension number uses the same extension numbering plan as the phone extensions, or if bridge prefix assigned, prefix+queue extension #. This can also be set as custom speed dials on phones.

Destination if no answer etc for queues etc can be set to DR’s, queues etc on bridge PBX if destination is set to bridge Extension#, queue# (with bridge prefix if used)of the other PBX.

Extensions can overlap, but bridge prefix must be used and user must dial prefix before extension#:

Presence info across bridge would just be extension and status, no active call/IVR information presented to the other pbx, but does the presence of the bridge extension show the caller ID in the webclient and call information in the windows client?

Phones cannot use BLF’s assigned to bridged extensions for status indicators, but they could use custom speed dial BLF’s to reach extensions/queue’s/ring groups on other PBX.

For Bridge to receive presence I must specify local extensions individually to receive, cannot specify by group?

No shared parking between bridges.

Outbound rules could be created for area codes for outbound calls to go out over other PBX trunks.
This counts as 1 sim call on originating PBX A and 2 sim calls on destination PBX B.

Cross bridge queue login can be accomplished with dummy extensions set to forward to mobile with remote extension (with bridge prefix if necessary) as the mobile number. Login/out must be done logging into webclient for dummy extension on the PBX where the queue is located, or management console.

Simple answer to many questions (and it won't answer everything).

Prefixes, when used for bridges, are required when there would be a conflict with other local extensions. So, if there is no local extension numbered 2xxx, then 2 can be used as the prefix. However, because the extensions on the other PBX are also 4 digits long, and begin with 2, it is not only a prefix, but the complete extension number, so, no digits would be deleted in the outbound rule. If you had a second PBX that had extensions with the same numbering as plan (1XXX) as the originator, then you would have to give the bridge trunk a unique prefix, such as 5. The 5 would then be stripped in the outbound rule.

Haven't tried sending calls direct to the voicemail of another PBX, over bridge trunks, so i can't say that it will or won't work. I'm guessing , not, but may be wrong.

I believe that a bridged trunk, call through the other PBX would count as one call per licence, not two, at the terminating end
