I have a client that’s wondering how they can forward their main number to another location. With AT&T copper lines on their old system they would dial *72 and the number they want to forward their calls to. To unforward they would dial *73 and the calls would go back to their number. I’ve thought of a few different ways I can achieve this with 3cx, however none of my solutions are flexible enough. The client would like to be able to forward to ANY NUMBER at ANYTIME. Just like how they were able to do with their old phone system. Does anyone know a way to accomplish this? Thanks!

I'm wondering if you are thinking this is actually more complicated than it is.

You can forward to external number in the trunk settings.
or You can forward to external number at the inbound DID rules level.
or If you have the trunk or inbound rules set to go to a specific extension (reception) then you can set the forwarding rules in the extension or allow the user to create different destinations depending on the extension status.
or you can set the forwarding as an option in an IVR menu
So you can have them set the reception extension to DND/Out of office mode and it has the settings for that status to be forwarding to external number. Or you choose the Away, or Custom 2 options whatever makes sense. You can change your extension status in the voicemail option 1, from the web interface, from the 3cx mobile app etc.

You can have different settings for office hours or after office hours.

You just have to make sure you did not prevented this in settings->General settings that can prevent some forms of forwarding.
Allow forwarding to external numbers in Ring Groups and Queues
Enable Outgoing calls in Voicemail Menu (I NEVER enable this one as it's too easy for voicemail to be abused externally)
etc.

Unfortunatly, 3CX does not have the ability (at this point), to do call forwarding, in the same manner that your customer has been used to doing, by simply dialling a code, and the destination number..

Thanks for the direct answer leejor. The customer will have to suffice with the other ways we can achieve this, even though it won’t work the same way as their used to.
