We have successfully bridged FreePBX 2.8 to 3CX and tested that we can reach each other's extensions. However, when we try calling the ring group from FreePBX to 3CX it doesn't ring any of the extensions. May I ask your thoughts about this issue? Your answers will be greatly appreciated.

Check the 3CX Activity Log to see, if the call is getting through, and if so, where it is routing, and why.
Are you dialling the ring group number directly? Perhaps the number is not being sent as expected. The log will show if hat is the case.

Hi leejor,

Thank you for your response. It seems that we can now reach the ring groups on 3CX when we call a ring group that is not existing in the FreePBX. We're in the process of migration so I think it will be fine when we remove the ring groups from FreePBX and migrate them to 3CX.

I have to assume you are not using a prefix digit, for extensions, and ring groups, when dialling to the 3CX PBX, therefore creating a dialplan conflict

Fair enough, thank you for your thoughts and is greatly appreciated. May I also ask if there is a way that I can call extension 0009 just by dialling the number 9? Because in FreePBX, extension numbers seem pretty flexible on digit range while in 3CX if you chose 4-digit extension number setup upon installation, you have to supply the whole 4 digits.

Hi Gilroy,

There is the option of SIP ID in each extension, you can type the number 9 there which routes to that extension. Normally this is used for Direct SIP but it can operate internally for calls.

Hi @JohnS_3CX

Thank you for that, it will be very convenient if that is all we need to do for internal calls. Hopefully, I can test this feature soon and see how it goes.

@Gilroy I would not recommend doing it though since this is an alias, it's not the "actual" extension 0009 so when someone dials it they will not see the name of the extension they called, they will just see a 9 on their screen.

Best to pick your extension length wisely when you build your system, a 3-digit length is reasonable I think if you have a small deployment, and has enough flexibility for the future.

Thanks for the follow-up notes. That is kind of sad to hear since the recipient must know who is calling right away. Yeah, I do agree with your thoughts on the digit length. However, we want our customer to make the system work as it was before(which is FreePBX). I think it's time to revise some things in order to embrace the new phone system. Thanks again @JohnS_3CX.
