Hello 3CX team and community,

We are currently using Microsoft 365 SSO with 3CX and it works well today.
However, from an IT strategy perspective, we are increasingly trying to reduce vendor lock-in and decouple identity management from a single ecosystem.

In the coming years, there is a strong chance that we will:
  • Either move away from Microsoft 365 entirely, or
  • At least rely on a central, independent IAM solution instead of a cloud-vendor-specific one.

Solutions like Authentik, Keycloak, Authelia, etc. are becoming more popular as generic IAM / IdP platforms, providing:
  • SAML 2.0
  • OpenID Connect (OIDC)
  • MFA, conditional access, device trust, etc.

Today, 3CX SSO is mainly tied to Microsoft 365 or Google, which is understandable, but it also creates a strong dependency.

Feature request / idea:
Would it be possible for 3CX to support a generic SAML or OIDC Identity Provider, allowing integration with IAM solutions such as Authentik (and similar platforms)?

This would bring several benefits:
  • Greater flexibility for customers
  • Easier integration into heterogeneous or on-prem / hybrid environments
  • Reduced dependency on a single cloud provider
  • Better alignment with modern Zero Trust and IAM strategies

Even a “generic IdP” configuration mode (SAML / OIDC endpoints, claims mapping, etc.) would already be a huge step forward.

I’d be very interested to hear:

  • If this is already on the roadmap
  • Or if others in the community share the same need

Thanks for considering this, and great work on 3CX v20 so far!

Best regards
