Is anyone else seeing very high usage when using google's speech-to-text API for voicemail transcription?
Google's showing 3,344 requests and 40 hours of transcriptions on a system with 6 users over a 2 week period.

Happy to hear anyone's thoughts on this.

Thanks

Found nothing in the web interface or in the documentation that would suggest it should transcribe anything other than VM. So it's probably safe to assume that there's no way to to do one or the other in the current release. Great feature, dunno if anyone who needs their calls recorded is going to be willing to pay the price for VM transcription.

Amazing catch in figuring that out, btw. Where/how did you find it?

I haven't found any yet. That's a shame because the feature is nice but some people want to disable it.

Web client, under recordings. If the language is the same, you'll see a transcription below the caller ID.

Oh. Is this confirmed?
I'm only looking in to voicemails being transcribed (very few), and all calls are recorded (many!) - so for sure would not want to send all recordings to google (and pay google for the unwanted recordings)
If this is normal behaviour, then I'm not wanting it!

I confirm that you cannot do one without the other. But this might change in the future.

Thanks.
Oh well, cross that off my list then!
None of the documentation I read mentioned this little fact!

Can anyone confirm if this is still the case with the latest update?

Just came across this thread. We record all calls for all clients as well. Transcribing all recordings in addition to voicemails is going to be a problem. That being said, where do you see this transcription for the recorded calls anyway?

Does anyone know how to see real time metrics on google for the amount of time transcribed for a period so we can start estimating cost?

Hi - We will fix this - We will add options to control what you want to transcribe

Voicemails
Recordings
Both VMails and recs

Note : For recs the first minute is sent to the transcription servers.

Is there a timeframe on this fix? I'm holding off v16 upgrades for all clients as the one system I have done and pulled a report from google estimated cost due to all calls recorded is going to add about $12 per day for just this one system. Clients depend on the voicemail transcription so I'm kind of stuck upgrading at this point.

This case in particular, I can give a good indicator when this feature will be pushed.
Update 3 July/August.

If Update 3 comes in July/August, Update 2 must be coming soon right?

Turn on compression for recordings and it will not transcribe them I do that and I only get billed for voicemails.

That's a good workaround and might work for some, but then "Note: Will not play on Mobile devices or Browsers. VLC or Windows Media Audio Player will be required"

That might limit users being able to play the recording on the needed endpoint device.

VLC is available for IOS and Android also most people only check recordings on the computer it would not affect voicemails those do not get compressed.

Nice one.. Good workaround to avoid getting billed until we make the extra options.
