Hi All,

New to the forums and wanted to get some guidance before I went deeper into getting some help. Which log would I look at to see what is happening upon TRYING to provision this dam phone.

I'm using 3CX Cloud with SBC on the local LAN. I factory reset the phone, it shows up in 3CX as NEW in Bold... I click it, assign Ext, choose the ext, click OK on the next window.... but nothing happens. The phone does not get provisioned. I've confirmed that the phone has the latest firmware and it actually shows the extension on the phone itself, but its red and is not registered.

I've rebooted the server, restarted services, factory reset the phone many times to no avail.

Want to look at logs to see what is happening.... which log would I look at to see provisioning data? thanks!

Hello BinaryITSolutions,

The Activity Log on the Management Console will show you all relevant logs, however if what I'm thinking is correct, you won't see any Activity as the IP phone is not reaching the server after receiving it's settings.

By showing the extension on the phone itself, it tells us that the phone has requested the configuration files from the PBX. By showing a red circle, it could mean that since the phone booted up, it may have a different SBC IP. We suggest ensuring the SBC has a static IP. If you require, here is a guide to reinstall the SBC: https://www.3cx.com/docs/3cx-tunnel-session-border-controller/

Can you confirm that your SBC and PBX are running the latest versions? If they are up to date, may I suggest restarting the process? In the management console:
  • SIP Trunks >> Verify that your SBC is running (green).
  • Phones >> Select all reject.
  • Factory reset the Grandstream GXP2160.
  • Phones >> Assign Grandstream GXP2160 Extension
  • Click the phone, it will navigate you to your extension, under phone provisioning, confirm the SBC IP is correct.

Hi Vasilis,

Thanks so much for your response. I can confirm that the SBC computer does indeed have a DHCP Reservation to always have the same IP. I have even created a DHCP reservation for the phone so it gets the same IP every time.

SBC - 192.168.1.100
GXP2160 - 192.168.1.101
GRP2612 - 192.168.1. 83

The funny thing is that the GRP2612 works, has no issues... the GXP2160 fell off provisioning and is having this issue. Both use the same SBC.

  • Factory reset the Grandstream GXP2160.
  • Phones >> Assign Grandstream GXP2160 Extension
  • Click the phone, it will navigate you to your extension, under phone provisioning, confirm the SBC IP is

^^ I've done all this. After clicking OK (and verifying the SBC IP is correct), the phone still shows up as NEW and stays red.

One thing I noticed is that the SBC computer is shut off right now. I will definitely verify that it has only 1 IP and that the SBC is listening on 192.168.1.100.

Will look into all that once the SBC comes back online.

What does this mean? You mean it's no longer shown in bold? Just want to make sure you aren't confusing provisioning with registration.

Once the phone gets provisioned (presumably done correctly as per our guides) it will look for the SBC and try to register.

If for any reason it cannot reach the SBC, you will end up with what you see: a provisioned phone that remains unregistered.

At this point, I would suspect something is up with the network, and run port mirroring to capture the port the phone uses, while rebooting the phone. The capture should show whether it tries to contact the SBC IP and whether it got any response. Then depending on what is found, you can follow up accordingly.
