I have setup a couple of site onsite with 3cx and with the same voip provider and same setup and same firewall. The only differnet is it is with COX internet provider. Can they be having issues or do I need to tell them to disable anything on their end? I got 5 static IP so I would assume everything is bypassed and pass to my firewall?

All of the calls are getting a popping sound, kinda like the calls are dropping for a milisecond and coming back. Seem like a connection issues or something. Its just a split milisecond but enough to notice it on both end. Anything I can do to trace down the real cause of it. I checked the firewall to make SIP ALG is disabled and port forwarding is correct. Under the phone option do i need to enable PBX delivers Audio? by default that is off?

  • 3CX Version, Standard Annual 16.0.655
  • Server OS, Debian 9
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? Onsite
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware : Yealink T46S 68.85.0.5
  • Provisioning Method: Local
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model : Voip.ms
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO

This is only on outside calls, internal sound fine?
Is this on both incoming, and outgoing calls?
Is it heard by the party at the far end?
Did this just begin, or has it been this way since the install?
Is the same Codec being used by the provider, 3CX, and the set(s)?

Only outside calls. Internal call are fine.
Both incoming and outboind calls same result. popping sound here and there like breaking up and coming back.
Yeah hear from the far end also.
This was just deployed brand new.
Codec i checked used by the provider are G.711U and G.729 and I checked 3cx also used G.711U and G.729.

Myabe the network is conjested? I tesed it and we only have 3 users with 100MB down and 20MB up. Ping test to the internet constantly around 20ms with no drop packet. So the internet is pretty smooth. I'm still thinking maybe the cox router have some kind of filter or firewall on there. But that is not true because they hand off 5 static IP right?

I'll give them a call and see if they can disable SIP ALG on their router. I will also do a call recording of the call and see if i hear it from the sound recording.

Thank you again. If you have any more suggestion to firgure this out please advice..

I would check the Activity Log to confirm that the same Codec, is being used end to end. It may still be an issue with your router, or even another piece of hardware on your network. I don't suppose you have any other trunk to test with, or are willing to set up a no cost one, to SIP Broker ( http://www.sipbroker.com/sipbroker/action/login ), so you could test calls to toll free numbers, just to see if the same thing is happening

yeah. i do have another sip provider.. i'll test it out with another sip provider and see if that rule out the issues with them. I'm pretty sure it is not a sip provider issues because I have others on the same sip proivder with no issues. I"m still thinking its a COX internet issues.

Thank you again for the ideas..

Hi Song,

You can also inform your trunk provider to check their side. If the problem is coming from you, then the incoming audio they receive from you should already sound broken to them.

If you run your own capture at the same time, and the audio is not broken when leaving the PBX ethernet, then its quite possible the internet provider box or something else in the network is causing it.
