The only support post I could find was for 2017 saying "It was being worked on"
Does anyone use it on Fanvil ?

( I tried it, and got as far as the voice prompt that said "Success, your phone will now be configured" But it never was. It just stayed as HD00001

I glanced at the video, but no that doesn't appear to mention Fanvil.
It looks like he is using Snom and Yealink.

I went ahead and configured an F5. It sort of worked.
The phone provisioned to HD00001, and I was able to 'log in', but after the login when it SHOULD configure to user extension, it does not. ( it does nothing, it just sits) If I restart the phone, it comes back as user extension.
Its similar action when logging out.

Seems like it could be a handset firmware type issue, hoping 3CX support will officially weigh in.

I am using Fanvil X5s (around 50) and Fanvil X4 (around 5) and all is configuring with Hotdesking. I experienced your case one time but I have to upgrade the firmware under the management console.

@azarett Fanvil X5 latest FW in 3CX V16 is 1.4.0.2090 which supports hot desking and we list the known limitations on the supported phones page for each manufacturer https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/

What Fanvil model are you using?
What 3CX Version are you using?
Are you on latest 3CX templates and firmware?

John -
We are running 15.5 3cx
Templates v 80502
FW 1.3.465

I can update everything since you stated I need 1.4

I have at least 1 setting in custom template that I need (registration time) But I know hotdesking only works with default template.

Can I modify in the default template for the custom values I need, or am I stuck ?

Hot desking will only work correctly on default templates - please see the Other Information section here:
https://www.3cx.com/docs/hot-desking/#h.5y2bkz77bpyv

Hot desking also requires that you provision your phones via PnP since this is how the phone will receive the account of the user that has just logged on. Are you currently using PnP provisioning?

The phones I want to hotdesk are currently connected across a VPN tunnel . ( Site to site router tunnel - nothing to do with 3cx)

I use PNP provisioning, but have to login the phone and set the provisioning server URL.
I am able to successfully provision a phone via this method with a default template. But the phone would not take the user login up to this point until I manually rebooted the phone. ( this was with old firmware)

When hotdesking, does the phone do a full factory reset on log-on / off ? ( I.E. is it going to remove the PNP server I am currently manually entering ? )

Can I pass the value of the PNP server URL via DHCP ?

The only reason I have a custom value in the template to begin with is when my phones are connected via hardware tunnel, they randomly, but frequently miss the first ring attempt in a ring group. Shortening the registration time fixes this issue. Maybe that has changed in v16 or the phone responds better with new firmware, but if not, I cant use the default template

It seems silly to use an SBC just to be able to use PNP provisioning when I already have a hardware tunnel. Is hotdesking even supported via SBC ?

Hi azarett,

From your description it sounds like your VPN is likely not set up correctly if you phones time out and if multicast doesn't go through to enable PnP (causing you to need custom templates and manual provisioning)

Your best choices are to either re-configure the VPN and get it to pass multicast correctly as well as eliminate the timeout that causes you to miss the first ring, or if that is not possible due to any networking hardware limitations, replace it entirely with an SBC.

If you choose to go in this direction, ensure that the HTTPS port for provisioning is open and reachable by the phones, and the tunnel port is also open so you can send SIP and RTP traffic.

Please read the following article, SBC Hotdesking is supported: https://www.3cx.com/docs/hot-desking/

Upgrading to V16 will also give you the latest 3CX firmware and accompanying templates so your phones can fully support the Hot-desking feature
