I think this is an unsupported configuration, but I would like to be sure. Is it possible to have an extension that is always tied to a phone plus allow someone to log in to that phone via hotdesking? We have inbound and outbound shipping stations with phones, across two locations. It would be nice to be able to call the inbound or outbound station while still being able to call a specific employee in shipping. It seems like we have to do either or. We're planning on keeping the phones configured with generic inbound and outbound extensions, and if we want to reach a specific employee, we'll have to ask someone what work station they are at that day so we can call the correct phone. We're using Fanvil phones (X5U & X5U-V2).

Hi @0xDECAFBAD

As you have already mentioned is not possible to have a dedicated IP Phone provisioned to one extension, but also has the same IP Phone as a hotdesking device for other users to sign in when needed.

Any suggestions on the best way to handle this situation? One static extension + hotdesking on the same phone seems like the ideal solution

Have the employee sitting by the generic phone open the 3cx app (cellphone or PC webapp) and turn on forwarding to the generic ext?

Set a specific status to forward and you can even use the temp status setting to have it auto-revert afterwards.

Otherwise, a CFD app could be made that would allow a user to call in, provide their extension, store to a DB and a webapp could be made to query the DB and lookup a user and what phone they called in on. You could go further and automate the forwarding rules.

Or go the unsupported route and build a custom template to allow hotdesking with a generic extension when hotdesk is logged out.
