One of our branch is growing with more phones being added.

If I want to add SBC to an existing client, what are the implications? What should I prepare?

Will there any downtime? Do I need to reprovision all phones?

Thanks.

What cobaltit said, especially if your IP Phones are currently provisioned are "Remote STUN", you must:
  1. First Factory Reset them
  2. Reprovision them

What I would do?

I would first setup the SBC on the premise where the phones are without touching any of the phones and make sure that the SBC appears as 'Green' in the Management Console.

Then I would Factory Reset 1 of the devices. Because the SBC will already be setup, it should how up in the Management Console --> Phones immediately and you can immediately assign it to the extension again, and it should automatically detect that its through the SBC and allocate all settings.

Test it by calling other extensions. If test is successful, repeat until all phones are done.

Important Note!
If the phones were previously "Remote STUN", for each extension you provision as SBC I would recommend, in the extension settings in the "Options" tab, changing option:
  • "Disallow use of extension outside the LAN": Checked - this is only needed when IP Phone is STUN
  • "Block Remote Tunnel Connections": Unchecked - Needed to work via SBC
  • "PBX Delivers Audio": Unchecked - Let the SBC do it's thing when needed
  • "Support 'Replaces' header" and "Support Re-Invites": Checked

Thanks for jumping in @NickD_3CX, the IP phones are provisioned using Local LAN:
#11
Do I also need to reset to factory default and re-provision them all?

Now I'm planning to put an SBC on site.

Glad to help!

I may have missed something though, if your phones are currently "Local LAN", does this mean that they are on the same LAN as the PBX? If so, why do you want to add a 3CX SBC?

The phones are connecting through the WAN, we setup the 3CX instance in the cloud, so it's NATed.

On 3CX Management Console:
Provisioning method: Local (LAN in office)
Provisioning Link: http://xxx.3cx.co.nz:5000/provisioning/khq5cd6fv70ihbt
Interface is xxx.3cx.co.nz

If we provision using the provisioning link above, it doesn't work.
If we provision using Provisioning Link: https://xxx.3cx.co.nz:5001/provisioning/khq5cd6fv70ihbt it does work, however, the 3CX phone book isn't available.

Ok, I see, the PBX is in the Cloud. I don't know how the phones are currently working if you have the Provisioning Method set to "Local LAN", but that doesn't matter, all above instructions still apply.
