I can't get 3CXPhone to work. We are running 3cx V16 and after downloading the V16 client from https://www.3cx.com/phone-system/download-links/ it asks for a configuration file that is allegedly attached to the welcome mail of the extension. However, these welcome mails don't have a configuration file attached, only two "getting started" PDFs. (I tried using these PDFs in case the configuration is somehow embedded in them, but the client doesn't want them).

It seems like 3CXPhone cannot be provisioned manually or through PnP/autodetect, only through these configuration files which don't exist. Any pointers?

Seems the attachment may be getting blocked somewhere...
Depending on the version of 3cx v16:

QR Code <depending on version of 16>
Get_started_with_3cx_Default.pdf
3cxProv_xxxx_ext.3cxconfig

Do you have a different email address you can try on another provider?
Also, the device should show up under the list of Phones in the Management Console - depending on if the server is local or not.

I tried it with both a Google Mail address and and the mail address at our ISP. I'm using the 3cx SMTP server and a trial license.

I just noticed that the PDF's attached to the mails vary slightly in size, and those that are smaller than the others are corrupted / can't be opened. Maybe a problem with 3cx's SMTP server?

Yes indeed, 3cx's SMTP server seems to be the problem. I just reconfigured the system to use our ISP's SMTP server and I get a welcome mail with three attachments now:

  • get_started_with_3cx_DE.pdf
  • 3cxProv_......3cxconfig
  • qr.png

I think there is discussion that when receiving email to Office 365 it strips email. This is to be addressed in an uncoming update.

365 is stripping QR Codes in some instances - but I'm one that suffers the issue - and receive the proper config file. Not sure why 3cx SMTP would be causing havoc.

It was definitely not only a problem of files missing, but it seems like files got truncated as well, since the PDFs varied in size and some of them could in fact not be opened at all. I suppose that should have alarmed me earlier to the fact that something with the mail delivery did not work quite right. Given that the issues was independent of the mail provider, it was probably either a problem of the 3cx default SMTP server or an issue somewhere between the on-prem PBX and said server.

Strange indeed. Maybe someone on 3cx will see this and respond.

Hi all,

This will be fixed in V16 Update 5
