Solved How to reach a voice mailbox from outside using a simple line

Hi there,

I am dealing with the following. A client has requested to be able to access a voicemailbox from outside with the old good way. That means, they want to call an external public number from any phone and get access to the voicemail.

Could someone explain how that can be configured for a specific extension, please?

Just point the external number to the voicemail number - Settings - Voicemail

The caller will be asked for extension and pin number

Just make sure the pin number is enabled on the voicemail for the extension

I would also disable outgoing calls from voicemail - Settings - General Settings - General Options. This may be already disabled 'Enable Outgoing calls in Voicemail Menu'

Hi,

Point the number to your voicemail extension as Saqqara said (or use an IVR if you wish to do so)


Note: The PIN will be requested regardless (because disabling the PIN only applies to provisioned deskphones exclusively)

Thank you so much for the help and the tips. I confirm that pointing a number to the "extension" 999 works like a charm!

Just for the records, I also wanted to explain that I did that with an Inbound Rule and used a specific DID to point it to the extension number of the Voicemail (999 also in my case / 3-digits extension numbers).

Also the setting "Enable Outgoing calls in Voicemail Menu" is disabled by default. And it is an important setting, so there will be no option for someone to place calls using our PBX. It would be like a "old-fashioned" hack, right?
