How to trim characters from outbound calls

I've scoured the forums and docs and can't find anything relevant to help me.

I'm on a mac, and when i click the circled i while in Messages (texting) on my mac, then click "Call" the number which is pasted into the 3CX dialer is specifically: `+19169999999handleTypephoneNumbercontactIdentifier04A71C1B779999DEA74BD95771699997ABPerson`. Looking at the available Outbound Rules I can't figure out how i might match an exact length, then trim anything after that length.

(Just thinking ahead to someone who may not understand what i'm asking... i'm NOT talking about using "Strip Digits" as i understand this will remove characters from the BEGINNING of the dialed number.)

Does anyone have any ideas?

If I understood you correctly, it's similar to saying I want to call "+123456" but I will dial "+1234546dfkjdhsfkljdhsflk" instead, and I want 3CX to ignore the extra input beyond the numerical digits, and only use the "+123456" part.

This is not doable, whatever you send in the dialler, is whatever the system will see you requesting to call (ie. an invalid number that gets blocked by your outbound rules). Your outbound rules can strip prefix digits, not suffix so this means your rule cannot match nor strip what you want.

I think it's reasonable to say that any trimming will need to be done on the source app where you clicked on, to prevent it from sending garbage to your dialler (or to any dialler for the matter, not just 3CX).

Possible solution (though not recommended security-wise) is to have an outbound rule that allows anything to be passed on to the trunk and then use outbound reformatting (in trunk settings) to remove anything after the 10th or 11th digit for example.

Use your activity log to see what gets sent to the provider to review your reformatting.
