Guide me how to upgrade. What are challenges that we face during upgrade? Will it affect our operation ?

What version of 3CX are you running - debian or windows , also are the machines virtualized

Do you have large amounts of recordings ?

Its in a windows 10 machine.

All the info here - https://www.3cx.com/docs/upgrading-pbx/#:~:text=How to upgrade to v18 1 Check License,the 3CX ISO. ... 4 On Windows.

Basic steps

1. Backup with license and fqdn. move backup file to local machine, or outside of 3cx folders on the 3cx server
2. Uninstall 3cx
3. reboot server
4, install 3cx, and select restore from backup during the installation process

If you do not see V18 for windows - goto this thread https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/download-link-for-v18-phone-system.114214/

Your system will be down, during the upgrade

The basic process I followed (or at least the relevant bits to you, since you're not running a virtual machine) is:
  • Run a full backup within 3CX. Choose License Key, Custom Templates, Voicemails. Keep backup on VM and also copy to local file server just in case.
  • Download latest 3CX V18.
  • Run Windows Update on host machine.
  • Restart host machine.
  • Uninstall V16 from within Program Files.
  • Install V18 from download.
  • During installation, at prompt choose to Restore Configuration, and amend where required (port, recordings path etc.)
  • Ensure Automatic Backup is enabled
  • Ensure Firewall Checker still passes
And after I've tested it to ensure it all works:
  • Update guides on Scheduling Video Meetings & Audio Conferences since web interface has changed.
  • Update guides to show new Windows App rather than Legacy Windows Client, for those who wish to use it.
There were additional steps beforehand that I took such as reading the V18 changelog and checking the forum posts here that were announcing each version release from v18 through to the current sub-version.

i will also chime in to make sure you move your backup to a folder outside of the 3cx folder. Because once you uninstall 3cx (which you will need to do), it will remove all the files in the folder. It's not as scary as it may look. :)
