How to Upgrade to V20

This is a quick cookbook on how to upgrade your 3CX V18 to V20. If you are running on Linux, an OS upgrade to Debian 12 will apply while upgrading to V20. V20 has many advantages over older versions including new features such as a native Windows softphone, a new integrated admin console, call scripting, enhanced security features and more.

Expired License Keys

If your license is still within the grace period, you can renew your maintenance. Contact your 3CX Partner or our 3CX Customer Service Team for further information.

Hosted by 3CX

If your 3CX instance is Hosted by 3CX, you don’t need to do anything. Just sit back and our admins will ensure your 3CX system is updated to V20.

Self-Hosted or On-Premise

  1. Log in to the V18 Management Console.
  2. As a safety precaution take a full backup configuration by going to Backup and Restore.
  3. Download and save your backup outside of the instance.
  4. Navigate to and select Updates in the top right corner.
  5. Confirm the upgrade.
  6. You will receive an email informing you when the OS and PBX are upgraded.

Note: Before updating, ensure you have a system owner set. The system owner’s email must be unique and not assigned to other extensions as this will be used to login after the V20 Upgrade.
