Inhereted a Ancient 3cx Phone system v3.1 - Upgrade?

Hi All,

I have inherited a outdated ancient phone system for a company I am working for.

The issue here is its a 3cx BPX version 3.1, I cant seem to find a upgrade path for this system anywhere.
The only upgrade paths I have found are from v9 upwards.
Also I cant seem to find v9 of the software to perform the upgrade.

one of my plans right now is to get the system to v9 and then its easier to upgrade from there.

its running on Server 2003 x86.
I have no plans on upgrading this OS, I'd rather install 2008R2 or 2012R2.
The only problems is I cant find v9 or any documentation for OS on v9

can someone help or point me in the right direction?

As you have a very old version - you maybe better off installing version 15.5 and reconfiguring the system from scratch.

How many extensions are we talking about ?. Are the extensions local to 3CX

There are approx. 30 to 40 Extensions which are local to 3cx via voip gateway

By voip gateway do you mean you have a analog, pri or BRI to sip adapter for the lines instead of sip trunks? If so you need to make sure that either (A) the adapter is compatible with v15.5 or (B) switch to SIP trunks.

Likely it's simpler to reconfigure everything fresh. I'm not sure how much 3cx v3.1 had as far as
provisioning. I'd imagine it possibly had to have the phones manually provisioned.

What model phones are they using as well?

we are using grandstream gxp2140/3240/2160
ISDN coming into the voip gateway, no sip trunks at all

im thinking of going with a fresh install and migrate all across to new system as it seems like a headache to upgrade an ancient system to 3cx 15.5, this way it gets a full over haul and maybe sip trunks installed as BT are doing away with isdn by 2025

if they have good internet then sip is the way to go. You mentioned the phone models. Two show as supported by 3cx v15.5. What model is the isdn gateway? Some gateways if not officially supported are a pain to setup and sometimes impossible. The nice thing with 3CX is you can setup the system with your gateway and then get your SIP trunks and transition over seamlessly when ready.

I have never seen a version 3.1. Actually the oldest version i have seen is a version 6. Can you send us a screenshot of the version for historical purposes?
To answer your question, your only option is to build the system from scratch as backups will not be compatible with newer versions.
