Installing a SBC and moving existing 3CX instance offsite

Hi All

It is my first time posting on this forum.

I have an existing Windows 3CX instance running at Location-A. I need to move this instance to Location-B and install a SBC at Location-A. While doing the move I want to switch over to Debian.

My questions:
- Will I be able to set up a Debian SBC in the same LAN as where the current Windows 3Cx instance runs to move over the phone so long, then at a later stage move the 3CX instance over
to Location-B and restore in Debian? (I have tried connecting a Debian SBC instance with the Windows 3CX in the same LAN, but not winning)
- Is it possible to restore a Windows 3CX backup on a newly created Debian box?

Hey @carmen.leroux,

Installing the 3CX SBC on the same LAN as the 3CX PBX is not recommended since the 3CX SBC was designed to connect to a remote 3CX PBX. You will have to actually complete the migration of the 3CX PBX, then factory reset all IP Phones, deploy the 3CX SBC and reprovision them using the SBC provisioning method.

3CX Backups are OS independent so the answer to your last question is yes, you can take a 3CX backup from a 3CX Instance running on a Windows OS and use that backup to deploy a 3CX Instance on a Linux machine.

Just remember to use the corresponding 3CX ISO for deploying both the 3CX SBC and the 3CX PBX. I would recommend giving the following a quick read:

Soft extensions provisioned through smartphone apps and Windows apps, will they need to be reconfigured as well?

Provided that you will not be changing your FQDN, they will not need to be reprovisioned no. They will simply resolve the FQDN to the new IP and therefore manage to connect to the new 3CX Instance.
