IPv6 questions

Hi All,

From reading posts on this forum it appears that 3CX supports dual IP stack configuration but not for everything.

Two questions:

1) In what situations is it beneficial to have IPv6? That is, what does it support?

2) What needs to be done beyond configuring the OS (Debian) and checking "settings -> network -> Automatically Bind to IPv6 Adapters if present" in 3CX? For example are AAAA records needed?

Feel free to point me to a post or the like. I couldn't find anything definitive.

Not much for now honestly. It can be useful if your local network supports IPv6 and the VM also. In a Cloud environment, some providers do enable IPv6 and some offer it as an option.

It depends on your setup. If it is a brand new Linux or Windows installation on a IPv6-capable network, then beside checking the box, you shouldn't have to do anything. However, if you are upgrading a current instance, then you'll need to manually add the IP for the NIC (easy on Windows, a bit harder on Linux).

IMO, IPv6 is still pretty much useless as most providers and even some network equipment don't support it. I leave the box checked as it doesn't do any bad, but it won't do any good either.

Lots of effort on my part, perhaps for nothing. Well, I've built a confidence for using IPv6 in general I suppose. That and our data center rack now has IPv6 setup.

I had originally pushed our IPv6 install to overcome an issue with V15 and TMobile's IPv6 network where I could make but not receive calls on thier IPv6 cellular network. Either the upgrade to V16 or checking the box solved it. I'm not sure but it works now. After this I bound IPv6 to the OS's nic but suspect (from prowling the forum) that calls are just using nat64.
