3Cx v20u4 (Build 487 Release), Ent, On Prem, Linux, 128sc

I’m curious if anybody else is experiencing this or has some suggestions. I haven’t tried HD before upgrading to v20 so I can’t say if this is unique to v20 or what. I’ve read other posts for issues with HD. None of them describe the same issue as I’m seeing but I get the impression that v20 update 5 should fix HD issues.

I’m testing HD and having some trouble. My setup, which I’ve double checked against the 3CX documentation:
  • HD Dial code is *77* (have the same results when using *73*)
  • Two test users, both with HD enabled. Both have a snom D735 phone configured for it
  • One snom D735 test phone, freshly factory reset, running 3CX official FW 10.1.175.16, and added as a HD phone

What I’m experiencing:
  • After freshly rebooting the snom D735 test phone, I dial *77*6364* on the snom phone’s dialpad
  • At the prompt for my Personal Identification Number, I enter it followed by #
  • I hear an announcement “Login successful. The phone will now be reset to your account” and the phone’s display now shows the user 6364
  • I have to wait a bit before the phone is responsive, which I assume is normal while being reset for the user that just logged in. At this point, the display shows the info for user 6364. For instance, if I hit the Speaker button, the button’s light doesn’t light and I don’t hear dialtone. After a minute or so, the Speaker button lights up and dialtone is heard. After hanging up the speaker, I can test the phone.
  • In the Admin Console, under Phones > Hot Desking Phones, the info for HD00001 shows x6364 in the Logged In column
  • I make a few test calls to other phones and verify that this phone rings when dialed from an outside number.
  • I log out by dialing *77*6364* on the snom phone’s dialpad
  • I hear a message that says “You have logged out. The phone will now be reset”
  • Again, I have to wait a bit before the phone is responsive. At some point, the display changes to “HD00001.”
  • In the Admin Console, under Phones > Hot Desking Phones, the Logged In column for HD00001 is blank
So far, HD seems to be working. I can log the test users in and out.

At some point; however, either of two issues come up… The issues that sometimes happen:
  1. When I try to log a user out, either via pressing the first BLF or by entering *77*5* I hear “Extension not found.” The Admin Console > Phones > Hot Desking Phones > Logged In column for HD00001 is blank now.
  2. If I successfully log out a user, when I try to log in a new user, I hear “Access denied.” The Admin Console > Phones > Hot Desking Phones > Logged In column for HD00001 is blank now.
Once one of the above starts happening, I can sometimes log in another user without logging out the currently logged in user. Even when the second user is now logged in, the Admin Console > Phones > Hot Desking Phones > Logged In column is blank. What’s also unexpected, is when I log another user in without logging out the currently logged in user, I’m not prompted for the PIN.

Ultimately, I reboot the snom phone. HD will work for a while with users able to log in and out. At some point, one of the two issues above starts happening again.

Hi EscondidoAdmin,

If both test users have the same phone model assigned to them as the one used for hot desking, this is not currently supported configuration. It will become supported no earlier than SP6.

Please try removing those two normal phones from the test and just use one HD device and see if the issue persists.
