Limited admin?

Good Afternoon,

we are running a hosted pbx V18. I have a cleint who wants to be able to update extensions and change names/associated email addresses. Is it possible to give them this right and only this, my concern is without training they may well damage the phone system we have in place.

So how finely grained can we grant admin access to a given user?

Providing extension management rights will allow the user to manage all extension settings. You cannot restrict them to only manage specific settings of the extension such as the name or email address.

We had similar issues with a client who changes their BLF settings and were unhappy that they had to wait till next day for their fanvil phones to automatically adapt to the new settings. We were using then V16 (Debian9) but switched now to 18 and exploring who we can reduce the risk.

We had to grant "system administration" to that particular manager were also very concerned ax this opens a pandora of potential user misconfiguration.

There must be a better day to force the phones to reprovision the BLF settings.

I'm afraid that you cannot provide an extension with access to only the "Phones" section. As you said, the "System Administration" right would be required for access to that section, but it will indeed provide access to other components as well.

Do bear in mind that most IP Phones if not all will re-provision upon reboot so if a user makes configuration changes such as adding a BLF key I guess they could always just reboot the IP Phone.

Note: Depending on the IP Phone brand and model you might even be able to trigger re-provisioning from their on screen menu.
