Is there a way to listen in on an active live call.

Yes. You use the "barge in" facility accessible from the call assistant. Download call assistant and try it. It shows the calls in progress, allows calls to be transferred, barge in to listen in and the ability to create conferences. This is ideal for a receptionist or manager.
