Local/Long Distance Calling

Live in Alberta, Canada. Have a Patton 4141. Using 3CX v16. Yealink phones.

When we call out a local number (eg. 780-123-4567 **not actual number), we SOMETIMES get a warning that you need to dial 1 before the number cause its long distance. So we do, but then get a warning stating "this is a local number you actually do not need the 1". So.................

This warning is very hit and miss, but happens more often than not. Talking with our multi-line provider they advised we may need to configure a delay so all the numbers when dialing get registered. (I have tried dialing the number slowly with same issue). Looking through some forums there are mentions of "Address completion timeout" and "inter digit timeout" --- honestly not completely sure what either do.

Anyone have this issue too? Is there patton setting that needs to be changed?


PS -- All inbound calls are fine with no issues.

With SIP, all digits are sent at once, from the set, and again to the provider, or to a Gateway, if used. If it is a gateway, it simply repeats the DTMF digits to the provider.There is not normally a provision to add a pause, nor should it be necessary. If you provider does not want a leading 1, then changing the dialing speed, or adding a pause is not going to change things.

What might be happening, is that your calls are going out over different lines, giving different results. What I would do is connect an analogue set to each of the phone lines going into your gateway, try calling the number that causes the issue from each one. You may find that one of the lines requires the 1 prefix.

If all lines are from the same provider, then you'd need to present this to them to sort out. If the line behaving differently, is a different provider, then you may have to split your gateway into multiple trunks to handle the number format to each, differently.
