All of the IP telephony providers in my country request MAC address. They also don’t support calling from a PC but just from SIP phones.

Provider A – the cheapest around
- Does not support Wireless phones.
- Does not support calling from computers
- They setup the phone with their settings
- The phones are locked to MAC address and probably they need their IP address

Provider B
- I can buy any phone myself. This is a plus.
- Does not support calling from computers.
- I need to tell them the phone MAC address.
I’d like to use one of these providers because I’d like people would contact my 3CX VOIP phone system using my regional phone number.

My questions are:
1. Does anyone have any practice with a similar situation?
2. What MAC address to a VOIP provider sees when 3CX VOIP phone system forwards the call? Is this the MAC address of the computer where the 3CX VOIP phone system is installed?
3. Is there any difference on how the 3CX VOIP phone system connects the VOIP provider or an usual SIP phone?

Solution I see for VOIP provider B:
1. I buy a SIP phone and I send the MAC address to the provider.
2. I try the phone operation.
3. I switch the computers MAC address where 3CX VOIP phone system is installed to the MAC address I reported to VOIP provider. I think the provider wouldn’t notice the difference.
Does anybody think this would be a solution?

Solution for VOIP provider A would be quite similar.
The difference would be that:
1. I should connect the phone to my computers secondary network card.
2. I should monitor the network to obtain the VOIP provider IP address.
3. Catch the packet that contains the phone’s username & password
4. Use acquired settings when creating a new VOIP line at 3CX VOIP phone system.
Does anybody think this would be a solution?

Thanks

the phones send some more info so you have to change the service name too - wireshark the communication and you will see what you have to change. but i thing if you put some work in your solution you get it . (same problem as u use GSM gateways )

everything is secure until someone break it

Thank you. Now I have to try all this ;)

Cheating is not good :)
We encourage to avoid providers which restricts possible ways of using them. So, sooner or later they will be out of business or fight for customers.
